This Is Me Reporting

The Internet has freed up many of the boundaries and restrictions which had beleaguered the mass media for many decades. One of the ways the Internet has facilitated this is through the availability of collaborative media platforms which have evolved in recent years. These are websites which host content provided by users, for users.
One of the best examples of this is YouTube, which allows almost anyone to post any kind of video (within its guidelines) on the Internet. This allows people to express their creativity and share it with multitudes of people across the globe, which would have been very costly, if not impossible to accomplish in the past.
Collaborative media platforms have also contributed another important thing in allowing users to share news in an open and unbiased form. This may not mean much to countries which practice freedom of speech and reporting, but for many developing countries around the world, the news which they read or watch daily is in effect politic propaganda by the ruling parties.
In these countries, many important events and government policies which are of public interest are classified as official secrets and simply not reported on the Internet. What is worse is that these are often reported in a skewed manner to paint the ruling party or government officials in a positive light, or often times such events are covered up, swept under the carpet, and simply go unreported. At the end of the day, the public suffers since the truth about the actual on goings are kept from them, and the opposition parties do not have access to the politically controlled mass media to be able to reach out to the public.
Websites such as thisismereporting are set to change that by offering a platform for the general public and the oppressed opposition parties to come forward and to share the actual news which goes on in these countries. The tagline of the website, “News as it should be” says it all. In the About page, the webmaster reiterates the point above, stating the purpose of thisismereporting.com as an alternative source of news in response to the biased, and abstracted news thrown at us on a daily basis.
At the time of writing, there are about 80 videos online, most of which are not politically oriented, though there are a few which are political in nature. The nature of a collaborative video or media platform dictates that the content cannot be rigid and follows the interests of the viewers. Essentially, viewers are able to share and view content from a fresh perspective, be it political or simply day to day happenings which mass media companies may decide to be not newsworthy.
Despite the limited number of videos, thisismereporting has all the features of a full-fledged media sharing platform, very similar to that of YouTube. The content is hosted in the Flash Video format or FLV, which is what is used by Google Video and YouTube, and is a proven technology for enabling efficient sharing of otherwise large quantities of data.
If you have an interesting or unreported news-oriented video clip which you would like to share with fellow citizens of the cyber world, do visit thisismereporting.com and upload your content for free. Given enough time and support, informationonthis.com promises to become a formidable online news sharing website.
