Idol Me : Social Networking Website
Ashish on Dec 1st 2007
As you can guess, the name Idol Me has been derived from the Reality TV Talent Show, American Idol. This website was originally intended as a discussion forum for music and reality TV shows, but according to founder Stuart C. McHenry III, it has now become a popular social networking website primarily aimed at music, friends, general discussions and teen chats.
Taking into consideration this shift in audience, the website was redesigned from the ground up in August 2007, approximately two years after it was first launched. This was done to improve the usability and design of the website, and to lend it a more music artiste-centric look. The effort has certainly paid off, since Idol Me now boasts an International user membership in addition to an increased local user base. Stuart is assisted by three other people who together form the staff which is responsible for running this successful website.
The website itself is dynamic with a vibrant feel, consistent with the music and entertainment industry the website is targeting. Users can choose to either browse the website as anonymous users or sign up as members of the website. As with most community-driven websites, signing up as a member allows you more access to the website’s functions such as participation in the forums, and exchanging messages between users.
The entire website is designed as a portal, and the main page has several different sections which present the user with a dashboard-style overview of the features and functions on the website. One of these is Featured Members which showcases ten members of the website at a time, along with their profile pictures. Registered members can click on their pictures to view their complete profiles as well as interact with them.
The main page also showcases featured artistes, which lets users view a detailed description of the featured artiste, in addition to showcasing some of the music videos of the artiste from YouTube. Users are also presented with an affiliate link to download mobile ringtones of the artiste’s songs from partner websites. Additionally, a poll section is also present, which allows users to submit their opinion and to check the current tally of the votes. This feature is available to all users of the website.
A summary of the forum posts are also presented on the main page, which allows frequent readers to quickly update themselves at a glance on the latest discussions and happenings at the forums. Clicking on any of the featured posts takes the user to the forum topic itself. If you are not a registered member, or do not sign in to the website, you will be unable to participate in the forums, and the only thing you would be able to do is to read the posts. Therefore, it is a good idea to sign up as a member to fully experience the website’s features.
While you are the website, you might also want to visit their special review page on online DVD Rentals. This is located at Rent DVD section. If you ever had doubts about renting DVD online, you should read the reviews presented here by Editor Andrew Ryan, who has shared his experiences with online DVD Rentals. You can also read the testimonials from other users who have benefitted from Andrew’s review.
